Wow, I havent been here in a few months.

The stupidity of the new people just amazes me, the spellign and grammar just keeps on getting worse and worse as well.

For the newbies, stick to listening to the people with the higher post counts, and use the search function. If you feel like the question you're asking is a common one, then you're probably stupid, like some other ******* that rolled through here and didnt stick around, so theres already a thread on it.

To talk about Redlining the car though, It really depends on the miles that are on the motor, the past drivers, and the condition of the car. You dont want to redline a motor thats at like 150kmiles and on the stock cats. You'll have a problem there.

You dont want to just jump into redlinging a motor that hasnt been driven hard by the previous owner, Change ALL the fluids and the cats if theyre old, then slowly work it up to redline.

Before I sold my car(S4 N/A), I redlined it all the time. It had 194kmiles, and the motor was fine. I took it past 8k on accident once or twice as well. My car ran better than my friends RX-7 with about 150kmiles. You just gotta have decent knowledge of whats going on. Redline the car if you're going to take care of it, and support the ability to do so in the way of a more free flowing exhaust and clean air filter. Change the oil too.

Yeah, But i redlined the **** out of my car and never had a problem.

haha, I just sawt eh topic starters name. "asiansuperstar" DORIFTOOOOOOO!! hahaha

S4's (86-88) don't have a rev-limiter. They DO have a buzzer though. Yours is probably broken.

You cannot base you hypothesis on just one expirement.... If you have taken any science classes you would know that you would have to do a few trials... I would say take your car to 8K about 4 or 5 more times (all in a row, one behind another) and see what happens...

j/k.... please dont do that... lol...

Anyway, my 88 coupe didnt rev limit (when I was trying to blow the motor right before I did the 13BRE swap I rev'd that bitch all the way to 10K for about 20sec. before it blew...) However, my 88 Vert bounces at like 7.5k or 8k, dont really remember because I hit it on "accident" (yes, I had the top down and I was lookin at a fine bitch walkin down the road while holdin the car in second...)

limiter on all FC's is 8500RPM, s4's will indicate 7800 at any point past 7800 (there is a physical internal stop there) and s5's at 8500.

so my S4 will show 7800rpm even when it's passed that?
i didn't try to push it pass 8k though because that's where the tach stops, i just keep telling myself it's not a good idea lol

Ah, thank you. I would imagine that the limiter would be at 8k since that is the starting red zone on my tach.
I would like to add that my engine is well maintained and driven carefully with some occasional "spirited" runs. I would not dare to red line a car if maintenance was neglected.

I somewhat disagree. Although in general you're right, but it also isn’t fair to rate one's knowledge by post count. I mean you have to watch out for spam tards who shoot their mouths.

Ah, that explains it, because mine stopped right about 7800. Its weird that they let s4's rev to 1500 over the redline. Normally they stop it within less than 1k. On my wife's 6 you can barely take it past the redline (but don't tell her I've tried...)

Rotary engines can blow past 8k rpm with out really hurting anything interanly. ( depending on the life of the engine. ) if its older might not but if its newer you can probly rap to 10-11. ( dont bitch ive seen it done before on a stock NA engine. in person. with about 90-100K miles on engine. )

everyone grab an external rpm sensor, and go top out your cars rpm. there IS a wall at 8500 rpm on s4s, i've personally bounced off it doing doughnuts showing off( got it on 8mm film still) the engine still runs with 140k plus, allthough, my s5 vert with 142k miles, that was baby'd, starts easyer, and still makes alot better compression. the s4 has had a fuel flooding issues with half dead batteries, the vert, i sware i could pull start the bitch( funny story: told my friend my TII WAS PULL START, and pointed to a kick panal were the "handle" was.... he beleived me till i gave him a ride to get some food. lol)

so you were standing around while someone was revving a stock 13b to 10-11k? that's smart. grenading flywheels are always fun.

No, even funnier, I was the one that was in the cockpit doing it... Besides, I had already installed the scatter shield b/c I was putting a lightweight flywheel on the car (and I heard that it is extremely dangerous to do so w/o protection.) I only live once and it was pretty fun... and yes, I still have both of my legs.

I never let my rpms go below 3k. In daily driving I shift somewhere above 4k. Going up hills ill take it to 5k when shifting. Occasionally ill take it to 6k.

When Im messen around ill take it higher. Ive hit the buzzer once at 8500rpm. I dont like to take rpms that high cause its a fairly new rebuild.

Theres no other lower preferance to me as far as driving this cars go.

Your gas mileage must blow.
