Redling your car
Redling your car
I know you're suppose to do it every once awhile, does this apply to NA engines also?
Also, is redling in 1st gear ok? I do it in 1st because it's easy to redline without going over the speed limit.

dude, search search search.....
i usually redline, once a week or so
its sapposed to keep the carbon deposits cleaned...
so i would assume that it would apply to N/A, as thats what i drive
infact redline in an N/A is safer.. because your not adding extreame boost, or pressure on anything like a Turbo...
I wouldnt do it in first, seemes extreamly inefficent... try 2nd or 3rd....
i honestly dont think theres a point to redlining, especially if your factory..
6500 is where its at, accept it... your engine will probably last longer, and the extra 1000 rpm proably will cost you more then it will save you... use good oils, keep them topped...
thats just my $.02

I redline my car every chance I get. Its had a rebuilt motor put in 10,000 miles ago though, but my friend has an 88 GXL with like 180k and he redlines the crap out of it. The NAs really have nothing under 5000 RPMs.
If you own an RX7, you drive your car. All I can say is keep up on oil changes since it will eat oil more if you redline more. Last time it was on half way for me at 2000 miles.

To importsown: So, you were never a noob. That's a neat trick. Noobs come to this forum to learn about the RX7. You spank a baby every time he falls down and he'll never care much for walking.
I drove my car hard as hell for the ~2 years I owned it. At least 3 redlines a day. Then one day, at 6500 in 4th gear I threw an apex seal. I'd stick to the once or twice a week redline.
This was on an NA, too... which some say are almostindestructible. I think I'm one of the only ******** to blow it up while keeping it well maintained. Gay.

I try to never rev it all the way out to the buzzer, that's the blow your apex seal buzzer not a shift warning. I shift at like 6,200 if I am really wanting to redline it. Most of the time I avoid going over 6,000. I am sure that is enough to clear out the carbon.

Blow your apex seal buzzer? I really hope your joking..
6000 is when most RX7's really start making power. Before that, its dead dead dead. Your living in the dead zone..
It's just as easy to blow an engine at 4500 as it is at 6500.

On my s4, I ran it to 7500 quite commonly with no problems (I had a large streetport so it made power that high.)
