redline warning?

OK, so it's good to redline yoour RX-7 every now and again, right. I've got a 90 GXL with an auto (soon to be 5sp) and so if I put it in L or S (1 or 2) and press teh hold button to keep it in that gear, and I get on it when the engine reaches around 7200RPM the horn starts to turn on and it gets louder as you get up to around 7500 RPM. The tach has a posted redline of 7000, but the engine can handle well above that. Is the horn warning crap part of the stock security system? After i swap out for the 5-sp will it still beep at me even though 5sp cars have a redline of what....8000? How can I make it shut up?

The redline buzzer is part of the dash. +/- 200 RPM of redline.

I was told the lower redline on the auto's was result of the actually tranny. Aparently they are not too stable above 7500.

Since the gauge assembly is different on the manuals to the automatic, you may wish to replace the whole assembly when you do your conversion. Lot of cheap gauge assemblies running about in junk yards.

Don't forget to swap the 20000 mile switch if you go that route.

You can also change a resister in there or replace it with a pot., but I personally believe that is less than optimal.

right, I don't use the hold button except for just these few times I tried to redline it. The auto will shift to the next gear at 6500...unless you hit "hold" Sure I could pull it to redline in neutral, but I didn't think of that at first. I did it on the way home tonight in neutral and it beeped again. So you think if I switch out the gauge assembly it will not do that anymore? And yeah what is the 20000 switch?

20k switch: There is a second odometer in the dash, that tells the engine computer if the car is in the break in period or past the break in period.

Dude! Yeah it's me! I don't know the Matt with the JUNX tag...But my tag is MY JUNX I've just always used that term to describe my favorite ****. But yeah, maybe I'll catch you around sometime. Are you down here in B'burg too...or are you up in C'ville I can't remember. I'm pretty pumped about getting the 5speed in there, after that I'll put a down pipe inplace of the cat and slap on an n1 catback. More to come after that, but not till summer when the phat cash starts rollin in. Later days!
