redline is good for your engine?

I've heard that your engine will actually last longer and have less problems if it's redlined regularly. is this true? I have only redlined mine once since i bought it (a few days ago) Most of the time, I keep it under 4000rpm. Doesn't redlining the engine put stress on it and weaken it?
in other words, is redlining a rotary exersize or abuse?

exercise! it clears carbon build up which is bad, m'kay. obviously holding it at or above redline for minutes at a time probably isnt a great idea, but redlining through all the gears and driving between 4-7k regularly wont hurt it, just make sure the water temp is in a safe area.

I prefer "A redline a day keeps the carbon away".

And the debatable "A redline a day keeps the rebuild away".

Really, ANY engine is going to benefit from being revved every once and a while. It heats things up, burns off contaminates, etc. In the case of the rotary, excessive carbon deposits can form on engines driven chronically at low RPMs. This can occasionally stick seals, fall off in chunks, etc. So high RPM operation every once and a while will help keep the deposits to a normal amount.

This is not to say that running around at redline all the time is good for your engine because like ANY engine, wear will occur more quickly.

All my rotary cars have always seen redline on a daily basis not as a maintenance item, but because it's FUN!

In addition it's also good to rev over 3,800RPMs now and then, since your secondary injectors don't do anything til then. Give them too long and they could get clogged and give you the beloved 3800RPM hesitation.

Actually, yes. Insight sees redline generally once a day at least.

Since it hasnt been said yet I will say it. Dont redline an engine that is still cold. Let it warm up first.

Yes, I dont know how so many people neglect the fact that driving an engine hard while it is cold is SO bad for it!! I wont go much over 3000 until the temp gauge is in normal operating range.

This is especially important on rotaries compared to piston cars, and even more so for the turbos. This is because of the stacked plates nature of the engine. The torque spec for the tension bolts takes thermal expansion of all the parts into account, so that the right amount of tension is applied when everything is hot. When everything is cold, there is less tension holding everything together and you increase the chance of popping a seal when you lay into the power.

redlining the engine helps to clean the fuel injectors and get rid of the carbon in the engine. to do this don't slam on the throttle and get to redline as fast as you can, to do this correctly you have to calmly apply the throttle until it reaches redline.

another keepsake of keeping the internals clean along with redlining is the infamous H2O treatment

Insight 0-60 is about 8.5 seconds. Honda says it is 10 seconds but mine has always been in the mid 8-9 range.
