Redline at 8000???

I would just like some clarification. My '90 GXL seems to have a sudden drop in power at 8000. The engine light comes on and it runs goofy. Quick fix -- Press clutch, turn off ignition, turn on ignition, release clutch, shift at 7700.

Feels like a revlimiter (had on Kawi 1000)

Any suggestions? - history?

You have a rev/speed meter hooked into your tach signal right?
That could very well be throwing off the signal.
Fuel cut should be at 8500 or so.

I've never seen the check engine light come on indicating the rev limiter though.....

Definately check the ECU codes.
There may be a trouble code stored if the light came on.

If you are not sure how to pull codes, here-
Shut the car off- ignition off.
Ground the initial set connector under the hood (one pin green connector by the leading coil- front driver side) with a short piece of wire to the battery negative terminal.
Turn the ignition on, and watch the check engine light for flashes.

There are sites that have the codes listed, unfortunately, I am not at home and don't have any references with me. Just do a search for "codes" or something- a link should pop up somewhere. That'll tell you how to read the flashes.
You may already know how to do the check, but hey.

Hey Tommytsunami- I just got an S-AFC, (From some guy around your area!) I'll let you know how it goes.
A hint- Post your car's mods in your signature. It'll help with diagnosing any problems (like your potential tach prob with the rev meter)
Good luck!

Thanks for all of the input. Just to make sure that we are all on the same page... The Rev/Speed meter and S-AFC tach read identical. They are coming off of the ECU. The stock Tachometer (is that cable, roun off the magnito? How does that work guys?) does not read the same as the "Digitals".

Thanks
