RECONNESTING HEADREST SPEAKERS w/ aftermarket radio?

SO many of you know i just bought this flawless vert awhile back, and i was wondering if anyone knew how to reconnesct the haedrest speakers back up with a aftermarket radio.

The setup is a JVC head unit with a v12 Alpine amp and 10' mtx sub. It sounds really good but i want my haaedrests too!

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Do a quick search in the Audio forum- there have been a number of threads about it. But most simply, you'll need to power on and feed a signal to the headrest amp that (at least originally) is behind the driver's seat. You're lucky- the S5s take a line-level input, so you should just have to hook up a pre-out from your head unit to its inputs.

It's not the easy way if you end up with useless switches.

You have a 91, that makes it easy. I did mine and it was no problem.

Just connect the rear speaker outputs to the rear speaker inputs on the stock harness ( really easy if you use a wiring adapter kit from Best Buy etc), and connect your amp turn on lead to the factory amp turn on lead (again, really easy with the harness). You should be able to hook up your turn on lead to the Alpine and the stock headrest amp. Do this properly and it will yield stock headrest speaker operation through the center panel.

Definitely crank your fader forward a few notches. You will have to find the balance between Master volume control, fader, and center panel volume control.

Also, I wired in some "bass blockers" to the rear speaker leads from the headunit (if your deck doesn't have separate front/rear crossover frequencies. I've only seen Kenwoods do that in the "consumer" level). the Headrest speakers will have a fit if they get any real bass. I used capacitors that were a 300hz cutoff, but would use a 500 next time.

Here's a snippet from when i went thru this in 2002. My headrest amp actually "didn't work" when I got the car. Take the amp out from behind the driver seat, under the security cover. IT's the small shiny silver rectangular box. Unplug the connector.
Verify the fuse in the amp is good.
Verify that the amp solder joints are good. You have to take the cover off to do this.
Look for problems with the wire loom.
THere is a connector pin out in the fsm. Verify that the +12v connector still supplies power (use a voltmeter).
The plugs for the headrest speakers are under the seats. Make sure they are hooked up. My wires were grey.
If someone has replaced the head unit, then they need to patch the "on" wire for the new HU into the amp on circuit. I think it's on the "rear plug" (smaller of the two that are connected to the stock HU, but it's been long enough I forgot the color, maybe brown/red. If that isn't patched then the rear amp and Headrest amp will never turn on and the controls/sound will obviously not work.
Also of course will have to patch your rear channels into the correct wires on the "rear" plug in the dash.

Wait until you have the joy of placing a relay on your Power antenna.
