recommend me a clutch

Hiya fellow FC Owners

i have a 1990 TII Coupe with the following mods

1 - full decat exhaust
2 - FCD
3 - Blitz Cone Filter

its currently done 106K Miles and the clutch is getting a bit slippy at anything about 5K in 3rd - so looks like i need a new clutch

now then this is the good bit - over here in the UK clutches are VERY EXPENSIVE , you are looking at around £200 for an clutch ( a mazda oem one ) - so thats about $380 - which like i say is a bit expensive

i dont use the car as a daily drive , just the odd mad blast at the weekend and i do the 1/4 mile about once a year

im gonna fit a SAFCII when i get the chance or a i have a blitz piggy back ECU - just not sure what to fit yet ! LOL - but this will up the BHP again - so i need a clutch that will cope

So anyways - i have been looking on ebay.com for clutches and didnt realise that there was that many to choose from , and im on a very tight budget

there is a XTD 6 plate thingy that looks pretty cool and should be ok for 250 flywheel HP ( which is all im hoping to get from the car ) - or there is an F1 stage 1 clutch , they are both pretty much the same amount of cash - so not bothered which one i go for

the main thing is - which one will cope best ??

any advice is welcome

Cheers

250 from your car? Umm.. Probably not likely. especially with just an SAFC. Get an ACT full face if you want, but a 6-puck will just tear up your flywheel, and is NOT necessary.

the 250 figure is what i was aiming for - just out of interest - with those basic mods what do you reckon its running - based on mazda saying they are 202 at the fly stock ??

I misread your post, you have a TII. My bad. So 250 IS a realistic goal, but I still wouldnt recommend the 6-puck.

180-190 at the wheels....thats my guess...and thats if its had a full 60k tune up lately (on your mods now)

and for 250 you would need FMIC, Rtek, injectors, intake, SAFC, probably 12 PSI

250 flywheel hp is easy, Racing beat claim that their T2 exhaust boosts power up by 60 hp for a S4, giving the added boost and flow. i have about 300 flywheel hp and use the standard clutch plate, but an upgraded pressure plate, that seems to be fine.

Oh crap more people talkin about stuff they don't know about.

OK I made 240 RWHP with the following mods:
RB Downpipe/presilencer to a custom Catback.
HKS mushroom deally
Solid Aluminum motor mounts
S5 TII motor
ACT SS Disc and HD PP
HKS SSQV
Some crazy Light Weight Flywheel
stock Phone Dials
ported TB
Rtek V1.5
240 WHP 226 FTLBS

I used the stock fuel system other the 3/8" Nylon fuel lines.

SO at the Flywheel thats something like 280.

well that seemed to open a large can of worms !! LOL

J-Rat - yeah its a TII - thanks for the advice about the clutch
Nismo - Not bad figure matey - thats something im looking at long term
VII - You hit the nail on the head there matey !!

and to be honest i didnt think you would need a front mount for 250 BHP ??

to be honest , the main reason for the clutch is me and a friend have a "sportsmans bet" for the first person to reach a terminal speed of 100 mph on the 1/4

i only managed 93 mph last year ( but that was with the cats in place and no FCD )

so i only need another 7 mph out the car - but the clutch isnt helping at all !!

there is a large thread about it on www.mazdarotaryclub.com

thanks again for the input guys

I would go withe the ACT SS and HD PP.

I trapped 101mph, but had major traction issues, ran a 15.0.

Yep, I trapped 103 on a stock mazda disk and an upgraded PP.

With the ACT Extreme disk and PP, I have trapped 114.96

101 mph at 15.0 - now thats exactly what im looking for

j-rat - 114.96 - thats FD's time - very impressed

i will scout ebay a bit more - the clutches are soooooooo cheap - its just shipping that makes it double in price !! thanks for the advice guys

Im now reading up on the Rtek thingies - never heard of them in the UK ?!?! ( although they only seem to do the S4 ?? )
