Question rebuilt alternator

while I replace the engine, I think it would be a good time to have the alternatoe rebuilt as well. The guy I bought the car from said "the car, eats batteries" and 6 days later the engine blew under heavy boost and I have a strong feeling it was way lean. (3" RB full exhaust, K&N and the fule pump was not rewired though it is bosch). The car had 81k, pampered miles on it.

What do you guys think.

I think will rewire the pump and or get a boost-a-pump and DO YOU THINK REBUILDING THE ALTERNAT IS A GOOD IDEA?

thanks

jared

i'd say have it checked out by autozone or kragen and if it's bad, just buy a new one...most of them come with a life time warrenty so you can replace it as many times as you have the receipt for it.

and another thing...you may want to check to see if there's a short some where. or at least make sure there isn't one...

the aftermarket has a life time warranty for a reason....
actually if your going to get a new one you might as well get an 89+ or even an fd one, they put out more amps. http://brfoundation.com/RX-7/alternator.htm

it lives on

I found a factory reman for my 87 t2 for 55 bucks shipped, do you think a reman would do the trick (put out the correct voltage)

all the after market ones I find are like 130 bucs (local, so I can return if need be)

Find an FD alternator.... 100+ amps. There's a thread here about adapting it to the FC's. I have an FD in my car and it works great..... all i had to do was drill out my existing pulleys so that they'll fit on the larger diameter bore of the FD alternator. Also, you'll need to change the connector.....
