Depends on the quality of the rebuild. One with new housings, properly lapped sideplates and all new seals and gaskets will last far longer than one with used housings, some new seals. You get what you pay for!!

Quality and reliability of the re-build is dependant on the parts used. When it comes to re-building a rotary the longest and most time consuming part is the checking of sizes, tolerances, and general condition. If some one does not pay attention to detail here then you might get a re-build that does not last long. I would make sure that the builder is careful in selecting parts that are in good working condition and within spec to insure a long running motor. The actual building of the motor is not that hard, its all about the prep, cleaning, and inspection time.

So would it be a good idea to buy rx7 that is fine but the motor is blown and getting a rebuild put in which i think maybe cheaper(would it be) ? Or get one that the motor is running but don't know for how long and really what condition it in ?? Does anybody know a Canadian site for rotary part and re-builds that are in canadian prices?? Thx for the help!

Dunno what you are looking for, but say it was a TII.

A good running TII (US Price) - 5k?

A good condition, non running TII (US Price) - $1k
Rebuilt Stock Engine - $2.5k

Its usually cheaper to get a non running one if you know the only thing wrong with it is the non running engine. But if you wanna be safe, get one that is running or has recently been rebuilt.

erm, you can find some good running tII's for around $3k-$6k
For a good condition non-running tII, about $1k-$2.5k depending on the mods and condition.
And you can always go bargain T2 hunting. I found a running (barely) turbo II for $500, but didn't get it in the end.
