Rebuilding My motor!!

Hey guys im planning on rebuilding my s5 turbo motor..my oil control o rings are bad
What parts can i reuse?
What parts can't i reuse? (some of which oil control o rings, coolant seals etc.)

How can i check if i can reuse the apex seals/springs , side seals/springs? Oil ring springs? Can i reuse main bearings and rotor bearings? stuff like that

I was planning ongetting kitting KIT A from http://www.atkinsrotary.com/index.php?pag=5

If you guys can possibly make a list of the stuff that IHAVE TO OR MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE that would be great. Im trying to keep this as a budget rebuild.

Any recommendations?

thanks guys,
Marvin

its best you replace all springs in every rebuild. Get 93 corner springs, new side seals springs, you best get new apex seals and new springs, new oil control seals, new oil control seal springs, new water jacket seals, new gasket set...fluck just get the master kit.. trustt....dont lowball ur motor like I did, ull end up doing double work..

When I rebuilt mine I used the guides published online by Aaron Cake and RotaryResurrection. Both were very good and I thought the information in each was complementary and provided different perspectives that I found useful. I printed them out in color and put them in a binder in those little plastic sleeves so I could use them in the garage. I dont have the links to those resources anymore but I'd make an effort to find them if I were you.

You might browse the Archive and see if there are writeups in there.

The FSM will tell you how to measure your seals and what not to see if they can be reused. I think the docs I mentioned will give you insight into whether or not you should reuse them.

I bought the gasket kit, all new Atkins apex seals, all new springs, Pineapple HD water seals, and reused many of the side seals on mine and I have very good compression. YMMV.

You're going to spend a lot of money on things you hadnt thought of when you started (like exhaust and intake gaskets for example).

Oh, and buy some hand lotion and disposable nitrate gloves. Washing the grease off your hands will cause your skin to peel away after a while. :-)

You can not reuse any soft seals, period. You shouldn't reuse the springs or apex seals unless they are less than 10-20k miles old, and even then you should still replace the springs.
Assuming they are in spec, you should be able to reuse the side and corner seals, as well as the oil control rings assuming they are in spec.

If memory serves, there is an atkins kit that comes with the gasket kit and the springs. They all you need to buy are the apex seals. That is what I did for my rebuild and it worked well.

Another part that comes to mind is the injector seals/o-rings , if that doesn't in the kit.

Another word to the wise: the new hylomar sucks. It gums up rapidly and becomes too tacky, its just not any good for rebuilding a rotary. What you want is a new thing made by permatex, something like form-a-gasket #2. If you search around you can find the proper name of it. It works just like the old hylomar, but its brownish instead of blue.

check out www.rebuildingrotaryengines.com , it's a pineapple racing site with videos that show how to inspect housings and such. There are specs in the Haynes/FSM as well.

since this is a turbo engine you really should not be using marginal parts. and yes the new hylomar does suck. I need to find something else.
