Rebuild: What should I need?
Ok, just got my hands on a S4 GTU NA, engine cranks fine, starts with the ATF trick, but will not run after it exhausts it's supply of ATF. I assume it has severely bad compression and needs a rebuild. What I need to know is, what all will I most likely need to replace during the rebuild? I have never torn down a rotary before so I'm not entirely certain about all the necessary parts involved in the rebuild. Is there a way to tell if I will need new housings before tearing it apart?
Also, just out of curiosity, can I dump the engine out of a S5 Turbo in it without performing a TII conversion? Just wondering because they are cheap.

The only way to know for sure is to tear it down. Once you have done that, you will know what hard parts you need, if any. In the Archives, there are several topics that deal with step-by-step rebuilds, as well as a good "rebuild parts lists" topic.
