Hi everyone, I'm looking into buying a 1988 Mazda RX-7 Turbo with 120k miles for $2k, but it needs a rebuild and the guy says he'll rebuild it himself for another $1k. Would that be worth it and how well do the Turbo Rotary engines hold up after rebuilds?

really depends on what parts he uses.....he builds his own engine huh?....whats his name..is he on this forum?

 

that seems like alot of money for the car with a blown engine but $1k for a rebuild assuming he does it good and right is cheap. i paid $1300 for my '87 T2 with a blown motor and now looking back think i overpaid seeing what some cars on the FS section go for...

 

I would not pay more then 1k for a blown TII. i know a dude who picked up a 89-90 TII with a blown motor for 500bucks. There are alot of blown ones up. Unless this had some mods on it and was in good shape, then i might reconsider the 2k.

Give us a lil more info on the car. you said its a 88, is it a AE or just a 88 TII? Mods list?

I believe its a TII, and the engines not completely blown, the car runs, but according to him it leaks water so he wants to do the rebuild before he sells it. And i dont believe he has an account on this site.
