Question Rebuild N/A or Buy JDM TII Longblock? What do I need for JDM?

Hello,

I bought an 86 Rx7 GX (Canada) in really nice shape with a blown rear rotor. I was going to have the engine rebuilt, but then I came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/JDM-13B-Turbo-Rot...QQcmdZViewItem

It is an S5 13BT longblock from Japan. It would be a bit cheaper right off the bat than getting a rebuild, but I am not sure how much more money I would have to spend after this. It comes with:

Engine
Transmission 5-Speed
ECU
Harness
Turbo
Intercooler
Alternator
Starter
A/C Compressor
Power Steering Pump
Intake Manifold
Exhaust Manifold
Clutch
Fly Wheel
Pressure Plate
Throttle Body

Can you guys name some extra stuff I am going to need to make this work?

I bought my first Rx7 5 years ago and my Dad and I had a lot of work to do with it because it had a blown engine. Some lady hit that car and totalled it so the engine went from there into another 7 with a blown motor that we found. All the work was done by us so we can do the work, but any guesses if this would be a worthwhile investment or a waste of money? They guarantee the engine to work othere than shipping. I am ok with that.

Anyway, your input is appreciated.

Edit: Here are some pics

Very clean for an S4. If you do the JDM swap, you will also need the driveshaft and rear-end from a TII. I'd consider it. Hit up your local U-Pull-It, or Pick-N-Pull to see if you can find some hidden treasures.

Does anyone know if I could just use the Mazdatrix driveshaft for turbo transmissions with N/A differentials? Also, does anyone know if Mazdatrix is the only one with this or maybe any in Canada . Also, is there issues with using an N/A rear end?

yes, you can use the NA - TII drive shaft....

the NA rear diff's are weaker and have no form of LSD....

All true, except the part about N/A's and no LSD. S4 GTU, GXL, and S5 GTUs have LSD, and all are N/A.

What about fuel pump? I'm guessing the stock one might be a little taxed, but if I am not doing any upgrades, would it need a higher flow one?

When I do my TII swap, I am going with either a TII fuel pump or a Walbro.

I swapped my motor and tranny for jdm. Its a direct swap but something to look out for: the jdm tranny's driveshaft had a different size yoke than my tII. I ended up usin my TII shaft and its about 3/4" shy of bein completely flush with the tranny.

The Jdm has no emissions, so remove the charcoal canister. The brake booster from the intake manifold is different, so different that you need to buy a whole new hose. In fact the intake manifod is slightly different (not the cast, just **** attatched to it)

The JDM intercooler says "Rotary Turbo" instead of "Turbo II".

In that pic I believe that is the s4. Its one pic pic at a bad angle. Honestly there is no tellin what you are gonna get cuz that pic is prolly a motor they sold along time ago. The power is the description is for a s5...

I did this swap myself and another friend here on the forum, so if you have any questions, Ill be more than happy to help.
