rearend questions...how much can they handle?

hi im looking for a 2nd gen rx7 probably a turbo II model if i can find one for cheap....

the plan is to swap an ls1/t-56 combo in it....now i know most of you will disagree with it so please keep the comments to yourself. i would like to keep this thread on topic and civil.

now to the topic.

what is so great about the turbo II tranny and how much tq/hp can they handle? i plan to auto-x the car every once in a while w/ the occasional 1/8 or 1/4 mile run...

what rearend should i be looking at if NOT the turbo II rear end?

on the bottle i plan to be making 500-550at the wheels.... that would be for the 1/8 or 1/4 track only

N/A should be around 450ish to the wheels.

any suggestions?

Thanks

Chad

yes, i think i better keep the comments to myself

but just off the top of my head, there are many people here running stock TII transmissions and rear ends with around 500 hp.

it really depends on your application also. sometimes it is a matter of use and not how much power you have. i would think that you do not want to use the stock components if you are going to be doing drag launches w/ slicks at those power levels.
other that, street uses may be viable...

i am not a V8 conversion expert, so i don't know what most of 'those' people use. and i don't know how many of said people are pushing 500 whp.

Ask the people in the Rotary Performance > Other Engine Conversions forum. That's where people talk about v8 swaps and all that junk, so just ask the people there what they use. I'm sure a TII rearend should be fine though.

if my post pretained to asking about how and what to do a conversion to i would of posted it there thanks though.

the therad was asking about what rearend to use to that could withstand 500ish rwhp....

cold face thank you for the advice i appreciate it.

i guess im going to use a Turbo II rearend....hopefully it wont grenade....

it will be a 99% street car though so it wont be abused on the 1/4mile or auto-x courses....

but do you think its viable that it would last on ET drags?....

talking about drags and tires whats the largest tire you can fit w/o rubbing in the back? 15/275/40's?....what backspacing?

thanks

Chad

But you are asking about power levels you are going to get with a v8. Not only that but a v8 will be putting out more torque than our rotaries, so again I ask you since you're doing the v8 swap why not ask the people who have done it what they are running for rear ends? Wouldn't they know best for your power levels with the torque difference?

t2 rear ends are impressively strong

That being said, most of the quicker t2's that are street driven are only putting out 400-450ish rwhp. Have you asked any of the converts on torquecentral.com?

I think the T2 rear end is like 8" or something and thats close to what a normal V8 has is the back so my guess is that it would be ok but I'm no expert.

Normal V8 meaning car/truck built for V8.

there are v8 guys who run wide slicks and make it into the 9s so they can take alot.

about an na rear but they also mention t2 rear ends.

If I were you I'd ask these sorts of questions at www.torquecentral.com cant believe no1 has flamed him yet. There are plenty of guys pushing 500+hp w/ the TII rear end. The n/a rear will grenade after dumping the clutch a few times w/ 300hp or so. I've heard it works fine if your not running slicks and arnt dumping the clutch every 5 seconds though.

You should be asking how much torque it can handle. Torque breaks parts not HP.

the only problem is with the gearing, you can only get a 4.10 or 4.56 i think. I have a 3.90 rear end and half shafts for sale if you interested?

I was going to suggest you go over to LS1tech, but I see you've already visited the conversions forum there. There's a guy over ther that just did this swap.
