Rear Speakers (Tower) Questions
I did a little bit of searching, but didn't find the exact answers I wanted.
I noticed that the speaker (about 6 inches to 6.25) has a metal support thing that the speaker is screw onto and that is screw to the car.
1.) Can this metal support thing come off the speaker? (It looks like it's glued to it with some type of crap)
2.) What kind/size speaker(not sub) would fit in the support and match the holes? What kind would fit the actual car screws?
Any other info would be helpful. Thx guys.

6.5 inch speakers work great with minor modifications to the mounting area.
I will post a warning though. I have the MBquart coaxials with musicomp crossovers in the back towers, and dust/dirt got into the gaps between the woofer cone and the tweeter tower and have messed up the speakers. Now they grind when the woofer moves up and down. I had the grille on it, but obviously that wasnt good enough.
When you install your speakers (whatever type they may be), put some speaker grille cloth on the inside of your tower grilles to help keep the dust and whatnot out of your speaker, the little holes in the plastic grilles wont stop it.
Just dont want anyone else's speakers to get ruined. hope that helps.

crutchfield sell's the 6.5" adapters you need, so you don't have to cut. They also have the wiring harness adapters, top quality radio surround/adapter, etc..
What, you don't get crutchfields FREE stereo catalog. It's the best catalog out there. www.crutchfield.com

There were 2 different configurations in the back from the factory. Some cars got the 4" and some got the 6" (not 6 1/2") mounted on a metal plate. New coax 6's can easily be made to fit in these metal plates. A TRUE 6 1/2" speaker is much larger than the 6 1/2" labeled coax speakers out there. The cars using the 4's will need to completely remove the black plastic box and make a new plate. Without any plates at all an 8" woofer can be made to fit. If you just drop one in there will be terrible airleaks and it will sound like crap. Free-air woofers will not work here either since they are designed to work with the large expanse of a trunk which we don't have. To make an 8" work properly you need to seal the chamber off so that it is sealed. then it can be made to work ok. Bass won't be too good though since you are always sitting much closer to one than the other and this difference in distance will cause some frequency cancellation. I was a custom stereo installer for 7 years. Trust me on this one.

yeah, I ordered foam bezzles from crutchfield instead of fabricating a strut tower box. I'm not really concerned about overall sound quality in the TII as it's not a daily driver.
Under this setup, you get a good soundstage but don't expect great bass.
The best setup will be 6.5" in the doors, 4" under the dash (foam bezzles are a must), 6.5" or 8" in the rear towers, and a lightweight 8" square kicker solo-baric competition grade sub. That sub box is tiny & lightweight, but gives good SPL / bass output.

i found some kind of internal amps in an inclosure that plugs in to the electrical system somehow. i tried them but my wiring is screwed up so nothing comes out. was this stock? i really dont need them so if you want them email me psycoman69@hotmail.com. first person to pay for postage wins. it sounds like they would act as a trunk, sealing it off. but hey no garrantee
