Question How much power will my rx-7 have?????

Hey there Im new to the forum and to the rx7 scene. A lot of ppl i know got 2nd gens and i jus bought one also. I would wanna know how much power should i expect out of this vehicle. Its a 88 non turbo wit a street ported motor from mazdatrix( 20k on it ). It also has a 2 and a quarter inch racing beat exhoust and intake. How much juice will this baby have, ive heard that it can be as fast at as a stock turbo. I also wana kno, wat else can i do to it for moticble power other than a turbo or that crazy NOS?

Yeah, because if you're running a turbo that actually takes up more space than the engine itself you're seriously hard-core.

i gotta rex,

Your main power gains will be from full exhaust upgrades (downpipe and/or headers, good performance catalytic converter, nice catback exhaust); full intake upgrades (cold airbox, cone intake filter, headlight cover airscoop).

Since you already have a good streetport, You MIGHT be able to run a reprogramed ECU chip to take full advantage of your setup, but you'll need to research which one to get. Otherwise you'll end up sucking more fuel and get 0 HP gains or even loose HP. Otherwise get an aftermarket ECU and have someone tune it for you that knows what they're doing.

Of course before you do ANYTHING you should get the full 60K mile services & tuneup. Maintenance before power upgrades is a STRONG recommendation. We recommend you check with your reginion rx-7 club for there recommended rotary mechanics. (see this websites regional section and ask there).

Finally removing the smog stuff will recover some HP, but it may violate your county's smog codes. Also if you have a open/straight exhaust you'll need at least 1 pre-silencer to provide some backpressure for you engine's 6ports to work properly.

Finally, be true to your car. Don't go putting an ultra-stiff clutch or overly strong suspension as you'll ruin the streetability/fun of driving a worldcalss sports car.

Yeah, you'd be lucky to get 220 rwhp with a streetport NA and all the bolt ons. Maybe if it's a built engine running a 9,500 rpm redline, high comp. rotors, carbs, etc... but that's not likely going to be the engine setup.

I'd say 170-190 rwhp.

Ya I thought about that after I posted. Flywheel horsepower isn't real, should be banned as a method to determine power
