rear slippage problem?

A short while back I was driving grinded into third shfiting from about 6000 rpm, then pretty much my whole rear end (though somewhat felt like the right back end) started feeling like it was swaying back and forth on snow. Plus I smelled a pretty strong burning smell a few seconds later. Slowed down shifted out of third into fourth and both the swaying and the smell disappeared. Nothing notable since then, but occasionally the rear will feel like swaying even though it'll go through turns without losing traction. Anyone know what's going on?

check your bearings, tie rods, tranny fluid and diff fluid. tell us what you find. that should get things rolling.

Tranny fluid's sometime last fall/winter, diff fluid I just got changed, bearings and tie rods I haven't looked into. Tranny's somewhat going out, though I didn't think it was possible for the tranny to be causing the problem.

you're probably right that the tranny isn't THE issue, but while you're under there it couldn't hurt to check it, plus if it's acting up it could be putting extra wear on the rest of the drive train.
