Loud beep, help please.

I'm having a loud beeping noise coming from behind the speedo/tach that sounds like that one shifting beep the manuals make, however I have an automatic....

It makes the noise when the key is in the "on" (top) position, and no other time. I stopped to fill up for gas, popped the tank, put in a few gallons, get in and turn the key, and my door was open so I thought it was a door alarm that suddenly started working... I've already tried going a little past redline to see if I could reverse it to no luck!

Someone help, what is this beep and where could it be coming from!

(It's a solid, semi-loud high pitched beep sounds like it's coming from right behind the dash)

Me and a friend were looking around and I was able to stop the beeping by unplugging a large silver box to the right underneath the steering wheel, anyone know what this does, other then beep?

yes, that is the power steering control unit (not sure if thats the right name) was it a fairly long connector? if you look in the fsm back in the wiring section, it says that it has a self diagnostics funtion, so this beep ( i think) means that there is something interfering with the power cable to the PS unit.....did you remove or **** around with the ps and not tell us????
