Rear Pumpkin Removaln help?
Found a 87 GXL at the junkyard. I want the LSD from it.
Was wondering if anybody would be nice enough to write a simple...write-up on how to remove the whole pumpkin from the rear. And what tools I would need + socket sizes.
That would really be nice. TIA

you undo the half shafts, the drive shaft and the Two Big Bolts that hold Each "ear" of the Diff on..then Undo the Front Diff mount bolts..Done.
This sint a step by step and this isnt the only way but I just removed a diff from a car earlier today and what we have found to be the easiest way is to :
Forgive em if I forgot anything.
1) get a enourmous socket ( I think its 2 7/8) and remove the big nut in the center of the spindle that holds the axle in on each side.
2) remove brake lines from both calipers
3) remove 17mm bolt holding subframe to body(its a bar dangling on the drivers side to the front fo the diff).
4)remove the bolts from the 2 rear diff mounts
5) remove the 4 21mm sub frame bolts and drop the entire subframe onto the floor
6) pull the subframe back and remove the 4 17mm bolts that hold it to the subframe
DONE
Me and my boys can get it done in around 20 minutes but weve done it a half a dozen times. Don't rush, and be careful under there.
