Rear Louvers for FC?

have you guys ever seen these things? the black louvers that go on the back glass of the FCs? how common are these things? were they a factory option or are they aftermarket? can you buy them new still? the reason im asking is because a friend of mine is about to buy an 87 T2 and the car has the louvers on it. the owner says they are factory, but ive never seen them on a FC before, i dont know a whole lot about them.

Yes

They are somewhat rare. They were a factory accessory, like a bra would be. You may be able to find them, but I doubt new. Maybe you can get the part number and ask a dealer? I would doubt you can get one new, but you can get almost anything else so who knows?

the reason im asking is because a friend of mine is about to buy an 87 T2 and the car has the louvers on it. the owner says they are factory, but ive never seen them on a FC before, i dont know a whole lot about them.
They probably were factory. You probably dont see them because they are rare and they have either broken or the owner took them off. Hope this helps

They were a factory option. I can imagine they were rare because they were actually quite ugly.

hmm, i see they arent quite as rare as i thought they were. however all the pics shown dont look lke these louvers that ive seen are sort of a two-piece thing. it has the main section that hinges up and away from the glass while the two side peices stay in place. anyone have any ideas as to what louvers these are?

sounds like the OEM one, but there were aftermarket ones.

What all of us REALLY want is a glass moonroof, but they're ULTRA rare and go for $350 on ebay when they seldom show up >

i figured out which ones they are. theyre the victoria british ones. they sell for 249 in the catalog. not too bad is think. i dont usualy like louvers but this car that has them has some unidentified bodykit on it and some old-school Enkies. the louvers kinda go with the look of the car.

Never seen one in person with the slats, only some homely pictures of bastardized 7's that have the misfortune of these brutal inventions.

It is technically to keep the sun off the interior, but usually they're to keep back seat fabric from fading, most 7's have no back seat, so they're kind of pointless at best.

Geez, they are horrid looking.

If your buddy gets the car, and he decides to keep the louvers, make sure he stops at the barber shop on the way home and pics up one of these.

He'll fit right in.

It's a matter of opinion whether or not you like them, they are no more dated than the 2nd gen itself. You can make a similiar argument about people putting newer body parts and mods on 2nd gens.

The first TII I ever went to see had one. I tried to imagine the car w/o it. He said it was a dealer showroom car originally or something.
