Exclamation Rear hatch shocks

Alright, I found a thread on this topic awhile back that was rather inconclusive so I figured I'd ask this question again to see if anyone has learned anything new regarding this. The shocks on my rear hatch are broken and need to be replaced, however the only place I can seem to locate them is on mazdatrix, and thats $150 a piece, which I find more than a bit pricey. I can also easily find the rear shocks for 1st gen's for around $20. If anyone knows the best way to replace these without spending $300 (plus shipping) please let me know.

Note: It seems looking in your local junkyard is the best way to find these however some people (such as me) are unfortunate enough for there local yards to not have any 2nd gens at all.

Anyone tried taking an older hatch strut (not necessarily from a 7) and using it to make struts for the hood?

that's not exactly a hijack... and a search? on hood shocks? I don't believe that has ever come up to find it in a search.

I have a set that seems fine.

I'll pull them off the car for 20 bucks plus actual shipping cost. PM me if interested.
