Rear end problems

I pretty sure I busted my rear-end last night at the track. I managed to drive my car half way to a guys house. I have all gears in the tranny. Half way to the guys house I think I finally did it in. It the begining it would drive (with some clancking) going straight, but when I turned the wheels would want to lock up, so I think the problem is in the differential. I think on the way to the guys house I completely stripped the gears in the rear-end. How hard is it to change the rear end, I have never done it. I also think it would be pretty hard to find a good complete rear-end.

P.S. I thought those rear-ends could hold up to 500 hp I guess not.

well a non turbo rear end is only worth about 200-250 HP MAX... not 500.

Of course driving style will also help... bad driving style= busted driveline.

And swapping a whole rear end is only about a hour or two job.

For someone like icemark it may only take that long but it toom a little longer for us the first time after the first time it's cake though. I just broke an axle on my NA rear and swapped it along with the whole subframe (I think it's easier that way) with one from a gxl so i got the posi since mine was base i didn't have it

I just GAVE away a perfectly good NA one. You can find them on the forum all the time.. Rotary Racer tried for a month before he found someone that would pick it up for free :-/

I was looking into this and got a some different answers..

IIRC people were saying that the S5 NA LSD uses unequal length half-shafts and if you swap in an S4 you need to use the old halfshafts or something like that.

Man don't take my word on this... do some searching.

No, that is wrong... I have a S5 rear end on my S4 vert right now, with the stock S4 halfshafts.
