Rear end/halfshaft compatibilty

I've got an S5 GTU can I do a direct swap for the S5 n/a LSD rear end? What about an S4 LSD rear? Do I need to change halfshafts for any of those swaps?

Will all n/a rear ends swap without having to change halfshafts or is it all s4 n/a rear ends are interchangeable without changing halfshafts, and all s5 n/a are the same but you can't interchange between the series?

I swapped in the S5 N/A LSD rear end (from the GTUs model) into my GXL, and yes it is an exact replacement as long as you have the entire assembly including the output shafts. The N/A rears are all interchangeable.

The only thing you have to watch out for is that the output shafts for the GTUs rear are unique to it, and the driver's and passenger's sides are not the same. After the output shafts are plugged into the rear end, it has the same size as all the other N/A rears (no change to half shafts).

I made the mistake of buying the GTUs rear that only included the nose section, so I had to reuse the rear cover from my stock rear and buy the output shafts from another forum member.

All NA rearends swap into all other NA cars with no other changes. ALl turbo rearends swap into all other turbo cars with no changes. You just cant try and swap NA and turbo parts.

That's not bad. I paid $300 for an S4 Turbo LSD rear hub to hub but I had to go to upstate NY to get it. He did throw in the front brake setup for free, but I ended up buying new stuff anyway.

86-88 gxl 5speed, 88 gtu, or 89-90 GTU-s 4.33 (ultra rare).
