really ticking me off. . .

Ok, this is really starting to make me want to go office space on my car. . .the dam thing won't hold a charge. new batter, new alternator (reman), all read outs on dmm are good. . .but my graounds are dirty as hell. I'm cleaning them tomorrow, but my question is this, if my negative battery cable has a gap in the insulation missing, and is all gunked up on the threads, will this affect the grounding or cause the problem to my charging system?

Maybe. Since you're in there you might as well clean it and replace the bolt. Circuits like clean connections.

That negative looks completely normal. Dirty, but normal. The eyelet is crimped onto about 0.5" of bare copper where the insulation has been stripped back.

However bad grounds are not going to cause the battery to discharge. Measure how much current the car is pulling from the battery while it is turned off. Now start pulling fuses until the current drain stops. Once you find out which fuse stops the drain, you've found your problem circuit.
