RE swap in progress -- pics!
What a freakin' mess!
pic1 -- old NA motor and tranny out
pic2 -- new RE motor waiting to go in (less a few attachments)
pic3 -- pile o' crap pulled off the RE -- namely IC piping, motor mounts, heat shields, turbo stuff, vacuum things, etc. etc.
pic4 -- part of the tt exhaust manifold with the seq. flapper mechanism visible on left side
pic 5 -- tt assembly w/ part of exh. mani. still attached.
FYI: This TT assembly and all of the exhaust manifold is pretty freaking heavy. I could probably lose 50lbs just by switching to a big single!! (hopefully in near future).
pic 6 -- the (dirty) destination engine bay (91 vert)
ugly, but coming along. comments, rude remarks, jokes, insults, donations, etc. are all welcome.

It looks good, but you need to get that UIM off and all of the **** under it ripped out. What ECU are you going to use?

Thanks. The front was actually on the car when I got it. As for the swap, it works but I am going through it to fix what I never finished, as well as a dead engine FYI, if you ever store your car, DRAIN THE COOLANT. Mine got past the seals and stuck something. I will open it up soon to find out what happened.
Good luck and have fun with it!

Going to try the stock 'vert ecu. I've heard rumors that it will work and am going to put that rumor to rest. Since the goal will be to put this thing in stock form, I think it will. First priority is to get it to run, then I'll start working on some other mods (namely single turbo related stuff). I realize at that point I'll need upgraded fuel, ecu, etc. etc.$$$$ etc. etc.

Was really hoping to avoid it for now -- also, the seller guarantees the motor for 1 year. I had contemplated the rebuild just so I could port it, but I figured I'd do that later -- yanking the motor is easy enough.

The one I helped install came from a reputable source, had great compression yada, yada yada. I BELIEVE it is the trans-oceanic transit and sitting at the docks that causes most of the failures. I can't prove it, Its just my personel theory. BTW the same thing happened to my Toyota 2TG back in 1987 when I had it shipped in. JOhn

Otherwise, I'll probably go w/ the FC3S.org mounts -- although I might play around w/ fabbing my own before I spend the cash. Should be fairly cheap to see if they will work -- if not, I can call it a learning experience and buy the pre-made.
