to RE or not to RE

Okay guys help me out.

I'm either going to rebuild and street port my TII engine or look for a Cosmo. Which would be the smarter way to go.

Are there any advantages of the Cosmo or should I just build the crap out of my 13B.

Like any motor swap, the devil is in the details.
It's not a simple bolt-in.

I'm a fan of building the 13b up. That's what I'm doing with my FC. The swap would be fun and informative (pics if you do it!!!) but it doesn't sound like a good time to me, as was said earlier, it won't just drop-in and bolt-on.

It depends. How much time and money do you have to spend on this project? If you have the resources then I say go for the RE.
On a side note, where can you get an RE from? I usually look at corksport of JDM engines, but they dont sell RE's.

With a set of motor mounts, it is a drop in.
Here is the best link on the web about doing an RE swap:

to Sideways 7

Well, Sideways I found a site called SportCarMotion.com and that got me to thinking about it.

I guess my big hangup is if I can get more power out of an RE or am I just as well to go ahead and beef up my 13BT that I have now

I did the RE swap in my car. Motor is 1/2 Bridge ported with TII ported exhaust sleeves, converted to single turbo with BB To4R, ARC I/C, e6x, etc, etc. Heres pics:

Depends on how much $$ you have and how much you're willing to spend. What are your goals?

What's up in Oklahoma... Hehe... I'm up in Stillwater. I know where you can get a 13B-RE with the twins locally. I've been considering picking it up myself but the funds aren't there.

I'm more of a cosmo 20b fan myself, i just have to scrounge up the 10-15k for that little project. porting and rebuilding the 13bt would be a more economical choice, but hey we can dream

is your horsepower goal over 400 HP? do you want to be unique? do you have $10k ready to spend right now? If so, then go for the 13B-RE. Otherwise, your power can be made much more easily and cheaper on the 13BT.

Dropping the engine in is trivial.
Getting it up and running is a whole 'nother ballgame.

The stock twin turbos are junk.
This means going big single.
Even more money...

Well, I meant drop in, literally... I hate it when people always try to make **** more difficult than it is.... For example. If I wanted to just "drop" the motor in, I could. I have MT, turbo-manifold and all the other ****... Most if not all parts from a 13bt will bolt onto the RE and its definately not a "hard" swap. I've done it a few times, so I speak from experience.

However, I do know what you are saying and coming from.. Alot of newbies just hear 30 more HP and they want to jump on it like a fat kid on a tripple fudge cake.

It's the same argument about dropping in a 20B.

wat would be required to run 99spec twins on a cosmo(for the sake of running reliable twins) i already assume the standalone is needed what kinda manifold would u need? or would it have to be sumting custom? (not trying to thread jack i just thought about it and am bored at work!)

Motor swap is easy and relitivly cheap

all the other stuff makes it expensive, i went with the standalone + single

i have near 10k in the car, on a jspec that i never opened

You speak the truth!

We get 4-5 FDs in here a month for burnt up stock twins!

Some as low as 12K original miles!
