Is an RB turbo-back enough reason for a walbro fuel pump?

I need a fuel pump regardless. Just wondering if the walbro is too much considering that the exhaust is my only mod so far.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I've already spent 1.5hrs searching.

Any recommendations/comments?

Yes, you'll run rich, but it's much better than the alternative.

After owning a turbo II for a while, there are many things I wish I had done differently. The very first thing you need to decide is how far you're going with the car. If you're going to be content with 225-235 rwhp you'll get along just fine with the walbro, safc, and some 720's just for safety.

I ran just the walbro in 11-12 pounds of boost for over 6 months without a problem. In fact I had the car dynod, and it was actually in the mid 11's for a/f ratio. Every car is going to be different though.

With just the walbro you will run rich, your gas mileage will probably decrease a little bit as well. However, it gives a bigger safety net, and the stock pump is one of the first things you'll need to upgrade as you start putting down more power and runing more boost.

the walbro would be one of the first upgrades I'd make. I didn't make that upgrade after installing my exhaust, intake and fuel cut defenser and it leaned out at 8k one day screaming down the hwy and blew an apex seal on a 25k mile engine.

Get the Fuel Pump Now!!!

Yes. You need a pump. My friend blew up his engine running the RB turbobkack + FCD. After that he put in a Walbro and an AFC and it ran fine. He did lean it out some with the AFC though so Im sure youll run plenty rich with the Walbro and stock injectors.

Better yet, would someone like to just give me a reasonable shopping list?
I have the RB turbo-back, FCD, and my turbo is being rebuilt.
Which of these do I need: Fuel Pump, injectors, SAFC, intake, fuel pressure regulator?
Any recommendations on brands/models would help.
I'm not looking to build a monster, just something I can be proud of
Thanks.

ok for ur setup i dotn believe u really need a fuel pressure regulator..wat u should have are some 720 secondaries..greddy makes some affordable ones..ull want a walbro 255, an safc or hks fcon...but on a budget just go with the safc..check ebya for some great deals on those..and for an fcd there is a guy who sells one really cheap that he makes himself and ive heard they are even better then the onesmade by racing beat and mazdatrix etc. so u can check that out. have fun blowing ur budget

If youre just going to run the car with the RB turbo back and nothing else, all you need is the FCD and Walbro. I ran my car that way for a while and never had a problem.
If youre gonna get an intake I would add an AFC on to that order.
If youre going to do exhaust, intake, AND turn up the boost a little more yourself, Id definitely get some larger injectors also.

I have a 89 T2 and I have a walbro, an apexi intake, a fcd, and a RB exhaust from mazda trix. My experience is your fuel economy goes way down, like 33%. I know its running rich and in cold weather it runs like the choke is on. Im thinking I really need the safc.

Did you guys set yours up yourself and what are the recomended settings ?
