RB N/A Header off of Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Racin...spagenameZWDVW

What do you think guys, should I buy it? Why the heck is it black? I was planning on getting a the RB header/Bonez cat setup for $450, I'd rather just get this and then the bonez cat for $250 though.

because they are black. At least mine was.

Do that, and then take a few minutes to look through the for sale section here. you can find Bonez cats for under $100 if you are patient enough.

No you shouldn't buy it. The guy has horrible feedback rating and he spray painted it black. You have no idea of the real condition. You don't even know if it really is Racing Beat, you can't see the flange.

If I was buying an RX7 part on ebay, I wouldn't tell everyone here... that only gets more bidders and jacks the price up

Nothing wrong with used parts, but make sure the seller is good and you know exactly what you are getting. Doesn't look like you've been ripped off yet.

Also see the RB website for more info on their header before you get a header. Then again the www.rx7.com description seems to imply the same thing. Kinda a cup half empty/half full thing.

Ummm...he has a 300 rating, with no negative reviews in the past 12 months. You consider that bad?

I'd ask for more photos, but that looks a lot like the RB header, judging from the section right before it meets the collector. Also, yes, it could be spray painted, but that could also be hi-temp (1200F) paint used for stoves. Why such unfounded negativity? :/

300 is not his rating, 300 is the number of transactions he has completed with only 96.3% positive. That is a low positive for ebay. Even if it was painted with 1200 degree paint, that's not enough. Do you know the EGT's? Much higher than that.

The OP asked if he should buy it, I was just pointing out some things to consider. It did not look like a good transaction.

Actually, no I don't know the EGT's, but I'd like to if you know, because I'm actually really interested in it (well, more interested in methods to coat the exhaust systems so they don't rust).

I'm also wondering what you would consider acceptable for ratings, because it's more likely he'll buy a defective XBox360 than this be the wrong item (just judging straight of reliability figures, since 360's have a 14% failure rate).

jordan is right on this one. 96.3% positive rating cant be the only information used to measure the risk. i think the critical mistake you've made is trying to compare this seller with sellers of a much higher transaction count(in the thousands). they tend to be up in the 99's in 98's but with lower volume sellers like this guy the positive ratings will and do tend to have a larger range of acceptable positive ratings. in fact if there was some way to peer into the past transaction ratings of those 99% rating sellers when they were only in the hundreds there would be plenty that had similar ratings. the fact that in one whole year there has not been not one negative rating says something. depends on how you look at the data. not to come off as someone who's trying to brag but i've scored a 4 out of 5 on my AP statistics exam junior year. so im not speaking from a newb standpoint.

360s should have a way higher failure rate, ive gone through 3 of them

Anyways, I think you shouldn't get it unless its absolutely confirmed that its an RB header...like photo the flange or something thats authentic and can't be duplicated...iduno what though.
