rattling/sound deadening

Hey guys,
I have a comepetition stereo (JBL 1200.1, two orion xtr pro 12's in a custom ported box, two more amps powering components) anyways.... I have stuck on sounddeadening where i saw fit... however, i've been having some trouble with the hatch rattling, even though i've padded THE **** out of the spare tire section. There are like four pillows, a blanket, and a whole wad of cotton stuffing. I have also put two layers of sound deadening material directly onto the sheet metal below that. The problem is the hatch. I think its where the locks are, but i've tried positioning the latches so that they pull the hatch down as much as possible. I think it might be the struts that hold the hatch up. The ball part seems to be loose. I've tried tightening everything down, but nothing seems to help. Would new weatherstripping help keep the hatch in place? Where would i get it? How much does it usually run? Anyone have any ideas on what i can do? I'd gladly bolt the hatch down entirely. Just don't know how
Thanks
-Ross

I've checked those, they're pretty damn tight... when you hit the hatch from the outside, the rattling seems to come from the middle of the hatch as well as the latches.
Odd isnt it?

I had a friend use foam to line the area around the hatch to keep his from ratteling

Home depot has some for lining water pipes that would work with some modification.

make sure you check everything, it is always something stpuid that you overlooked, look under the car or the liscense plate, i have found taht it is always something dumb....If it is your hatch, it is because your pushing so much air that the hatchback itself is moving up and down causing it to hit the clasp. if it is this i would suggest going to home depot or any local hardware to find weatherstriping. even your audio shop may sell it.

hope you find the problem
