painting my interior panels and sound deadening...
hi all!
My interior pieces are cracked, scratch, faded, and they all rattle like a b*tch.
I'm planning on pulling out the pieces, epoxying (to fix cracks), sanding, and then painting all the pieces and putting it back in with some silicone caulking on the edges to cut back on the rattling.
Anyone ever done anything like this? Any suggestions on how to go about it? Tips? Warnings ahead of time?
Some issues I have questions about:
1. Should I get real 2-part epoxy to fix plastic, or is "super glue" good enough?
2. My interior is slightly texturized, will this pose a problem for painting? What paint should I use? I really like the laquered black look that the new RX8s have. I also like the gunmetal/metallic trim I've seen in some cars. Any suggestions?
3. To help sound deadening, should I use silicone caulk (easier, but messy), or felt tape (a major b*tch to cut to size)?

I am sorry, but from your plans, sounds like it will not turn out too well. Caulking needs to stay with the plumbers. I would look into getting new OEM pieces to replace the broken ones and that will take care of much of your rattling.
