Hello recently my car just started rattling under heavy acceleration. it doesn't do this in neutral so i can narrow it down to something with the tranny. i just don't know what it is and would like to know if anyone knows before i start tearing everything apart. The noise comes when ever the car is going only, for example if i'm on 2nd gear and switch to third too early the rattling comes on. but sometimes it rattles in every gear up until 4th gear. this is an 88' rx7 na

 

Check all your mounts and for a loose driveshaft. Make sure the differential mounts are tight as well. Check the motor mounts and make sure everything is tight.
You say switch gears to early, are you bogging it down causing a 20 year old car to rattle?

What does the rattling sound like? Metalic? High pitch? Low pitch? Does it sound like a big piece of metal or small?

I had a loose exhaust shield piece that would rattle all the godamned time. It drove me nuts till I took it off + beat the **** out of it. Then I was happy.

 

i'm pretty sure all the mounts are tight, but i'll double check again. the rattling noise is prettly loud when it wants to be. it goes on and off sometimes but most of the time it could be heard. i'll check the exhaust shield also, and my shifter doesn't rattle. hopefully it's nothing bad, i'm soooo clueless as to what it is. thanks for the suggestions, i'll check on all those tomorrow.

 

hey you ever found it what it was that was rattling /.?? because i think im having the same problem
