rats nest removal

is there a howto any where on removing the s5 N/A rats nest?

I'm swaping an 89 motor into my 1st gen, and would rather not reconnect the emmissions stuff. But i'm not sure what I need and what I dont need.

SO a howto with pics would be great if anyone has em.

man... that sucks.

We have like 10 writeups floating around in the firstgen forum.

Let me ask this, would anybody consider writing one up? It seems like it would be a REALLY good thing to have around.

Also are there any problems that arise from removing the rats nets? I've heard stories of the engine never really working right, and really stinky exaust.

I would think those things would only occour if the removal wasnt done right.

dang....... all of these say to remove the cats at the same time. I need to keep saving for my RB exaust system.

It seems like a shame that I'd have to connect the rats nest, just to disconnect it like a month or two down the road?

Better yet, has anybody done this while keeping the airpump, ACV, and the cats?

The ACV won't work without the solenoids and vac lines, so the air pump will be redundant and the stock cat will clog. You need to ditch the cat or get an aftermarket one that doesn't require air injection.

As for removal, you basically unplug and remove everything and cap any open nipples. You'll need to rerun the line from the manifold to the FPR, as this normally goes via a solenoid. Note that the VDI and 6PI systems won't work if you remove all this, and that'll cost power and torque. You should download the NA EFI chapter of the FSM for www.fc3s.org for reference.

The only one I'm aware of is for removal of the rats nest in the 1st gen. It's well documented with pictures (shameless plug).

I'm sure a lot of the technical information is similar, but I'm not going to swear on it. Just click my sig to find out if there's enough info for you to feel comfortable.

Oh, perhaps when I get my 2nd gen to swap the guts into my FB I'll be able to come up with a similar 2nd gen write-up? No promises, but we'll see what I can do when the time comes.

Hummmmm,

- fuel pressure regulator needs to see manifold vacuum

- boost pressure sensor needs to see manifold vacuum

- fuel lines will need to be made longer to reach the rail

- VDI and 6th ports need to be accounted for

- A vent must be put on the oil filler neck

there are a few other small things that may effect your car depending on which options you have.
