Rainy Day Car Problems

It seems whenever it gets cold or starts to rain, my Logicon unit and Wipers stop working.

they also go off at the same time, so it makes me think that there is a problem with the power source they both feed off of. what could it be???

I think icemark answered this in another one of my threads but I forget what he said and cant find it!

yeah, your ignition switch is probably failing. I suppose it could also be a bad connection at the fuse box, but since the fuse box is not soldered and the ignition switch is, the ignition switch would be the first thing to look at.

And here is how you find Your (Jono20)'s old posts:

so you mean the actual ignition where the key goes in?

ive been thinking about making a panel of switches, with a key lock on all of them, and then an ACC, ON, FUEL switch, and a start button, therefore bypassing the whole stock ignition tumbler type thing. would this solve the problem? or am i thinking about the wrong area entirely

Is there any other ignition switch???

well, yes replacing the switch would probably solve the problem.

But creating some lame switch panel will add un-needed complexity and reduced theft resistance (as well as you would see need to use the key to unlock the steering wheel's mechanical turn lock. Are you trying to build a track only car??? That would be the only reason to build some sort of panel as you talk about.

And you know better than bumping. You have been countless times before. Do you want to **** me or the other mods off???

You bump has been deleted.

My left turn signal wouldn't work when It was damp. I had a bad solder joint in the CPU. Could there possibly be some bad solder conection/s at the switch?

alright thanks for the help.

about that other idea I had with the panel of switches...

have you very seen anything like it? I imagine your right in it being a bit less secure, so I was thinking... what if I removed all the wires from the ignition switch and wired them to those custom switches like I said, but then ran the main power wire through the ignition like stock, and then to the console. That way the key would go in as usual, eliminating the steering lock, but then you would have the switch acitvation for ACC, ON, and FUEL, and then the S2000 style push button start. I could mount it on a 1/8 inch or so steel plate for a bit more security... its jsut a matter of finding a place to mount the panel after that.

opinions?

yep, he could try that since the wires are soldered onto the back of the switch.

The panel will still be only as strong as what you have mounted it too. So if you mount the steel plate to a plastic, well lets face it, brand new after 5 years the plastic on a FC gets pretty weak and fragile...

remember theft does not care about your car... he is stealing it. He or she have no quames what so ever about busting apart a center console to take the car.

And remember some of the switches peak at 50 amps running through them (but average only 15-40 amps) so what ever you use for switches must be pretty high capacity or your wiring and switches are gonna act like a Ford ignition switch and burn the car to the ground.
