Red face Radiator Caps

Hi, I would like to know what caps should be where, I have two 13 lb. caps that have a little spring inside that pops @ pressure, should one of these caps not be that kinda of pressure relief cap? I'm still spitting out water from overflow tank when I first start it, the buzzer is still going off and on but it is not getting as hot as it was. I am going to check the heater core hose and should I check the heater core its self?

Thank-you someone Please It's driving me bannana's

Dude, the one on top of the thermostat assembly comes stock as just a dead cap...no pressure relief spring, but they are hard to find, at least here in Louisiana. I use a 13 on the radiator but on that top part I use a 16lb.
What happens if you use two 13/s is they both start releasing pressure with one having no place to go causing I think a pressure equalization issue in the system causing your symptoms....welcome to RX7 Heaven, dude...hope this helps..

If I were in Louisiana I would Kiss you! First I'm a Women, not a dude, so it's ok to kiss you! :-) Thank-you so very much. I hope this works, it sounds logical. I let you know what happens. I have had a RX-7 for 10 years, I had an 82 RX-7 now I have a 88 I put the motor in this one twice. Anyways, I still don't know alot about them but I know more than most Guys that don't even know what a rotor is. I love my car! Thanks again I'll let you know.

Use the Mazda parts... Jim in parts at the Mazda dealer in Santa Rosa can get almost anything. The stock Mazda dummy cap is only like $7 last I needed one, and a regular .9 bar stock cap is only about $15 and will last 60K miles hands down.

Aftermarket caps (and thermostats) on the rotary engine tend to fail prematurely... something that you really do not want to happen as overheating the engine is just about the worst thing you can do.

You are right, you only need one pressure relief cap. It goes on whichever neck has the hose to the overflow bottle (usually on the radiator). The other one just needs a filler cap.

Similar problem

For what it is worth, I had the same problem and fixed it with two pressure caps that were set at 13 pounds. I simply went to murries picked up both (obviously the same). Some people may tell you to have different releace points, however this has worked for me.

Thumbs up Thanks A Million!!!

You Guys are the Best I did put the 16lb. cap on the Rad and it works Fantasitic, it's such a relief not to hear that anyoying buzzer! This water thing had been driving me crazy, the first motor I got for this car I put in we had just got in running I got about a 1/4 mile away from where I was and it overheated blew the engine up in 5 mins. Had no Idea the radiator had been sliced at the bottom. I got the car from someone who bought out of Pick and Pull. Anyways, I towed the car everywhere I moved until I was able to put another engine in. 2 years later I was on the road. It's been stolen from me and they recovered it, with no rim & tire, no battery, spark plug wires, no stereo of course, riped my interior to junk. She's my baby and she will look good again soon. I've been through alot with my RX-7's
but they have never left me stranded with no hope!

Well guys, again thanks IceMark,
and here's a kiss flying back your way Harley >>>~~~

Sincerely, Perfect36 A Women
