Radar detector

I got a shitload of questions to ask..

Anyway, I got a Valentine One from my previous car but I used the cigarette lighter, so now I got the FC, and I'm planning on wiring it to the car. Any ideas on how to do it?

I bought a second power adapter and wired it into the stereo power source. works nicely, no cord hanging around I still have the lighter to charge my phone.

My Valentine One came with a car hookup kit, and the lighter adapter. If yours didn't you could easily wire it up like 13bpower did. Make sure you put some sort of fuse in there. 1 or 2 amp maybe at the most, since the Valentine One is a very expensive little radar detector.

You can tap the wires either at the stereo, If you use the 12v line just make sure to turn it off when you are done with it. I personally enjoy the ACC wire, so you can have it power off when the cars off... For those forgetful times...

Just some things to think about... Its pretty easy as long has you have some experience with taping wires/soldering or using crimp connectors.. Whatever your preference is. Im a solder fan.

just as I did it, tapped it off the stereo wiring harness, and ran it through the dash and out at the top corner of the dash. No messy wires hanging all over (why it came with like 8 feet of wire is beyond me...) One thing as well, after I cut the cigarette adapter off, I stripped some of the wire back and, keeping them separated, I plugged it in to find out which colour was ground. I've got a cobra, and the two wires were white and red I believe...just wanted to make sure of the polarity before I soldered it in.

Well, if it helps, the cigarette is positive in the center, and negative on the side. I jury rigged some wiring for my radar detector to the lighter plug.

yeah that's true, but once you cut off the adapter and strip the wires to spice into, you need to know which one is which

I didn't cut the plug. I used the plug and jury-rigged some kind of socket for it, wired straight to pos/neg terms on the battery. Fuse is inside the plug.

not a bad little way you guys have to get rid of all those crappy wires. It wouldn't be TOO hard to get get rid of after wireing it in would it?

I used the wiring kit that came with my V1. I grounded to the chassis, tapped off my turbotimer harness for positive (so I have to remember to turn it off), then ran the wire up the a-pillar then tucked it just inside the headliner, and it hangs out a couple inches above the mirror.

hi there, i got a cobra one which i cut the cig . lighter part and sliced the cables, the best location is, your rear view mirror assembly has the "map" lights, there with a tester you will find a constant 12V positive. well i have a sunroof on mine so i dont no if non sunroof will have that constant 12V. there you can hook that positive and hang the rader above the mirror and the mirror will actuallt suporrt the rader also, its great if you have a nice 8 inch 20% window tint strip cause you cant see the rader perched up there, the negative can be put with a little O ring to the long screw that holds up the mirror, ill attatch my pic to this post so you can see latter..

I just took out my cig lighter and tapped into the cables. Both work just fine now. I ran the wire behind my cd player and up behind the dash... (not an easy task at all, unless you have something to pull the dash back with) and i ran the wire thru the hole for the defroster.
