Search for "The $10,000 drive shaft" There is a lot of good info and also tells who makes CF drive shafts. We run a stock drive shaft in the car with the 5.12 rearend now and will probably have a CF one for my car(racing tranny, not stock, and a 3.90 final drive gear)

That's probably the best answer. Check the Yellow Pages for "driveline" and call around. It's likely that you will find someone local who builds all the shafts for the racers in the area. This kind of work is surprisingly inexpensive. I had a shaft made using large (replacable!) Dodge truck U-joints with a shaft twice as thick at stock for $250 a few years ago. They assembled the shaft while I waited and balanced it as well.

maybe steel ones but i doubt aluminum or carbon fiber ones. i'm sure most driveline shops could fabricate something with lightweight materials but it wouldn't be a quick or inexpensive job.

True, ALU would be more expensive then steel and probably require ordering ahead...But at least my local shop had the equipment to do it, so I would assume that other communities have such a shop as well.

Those local made shafts are fine for the street, we paid $280 for one that used those Dodge u-joints. They won't be balanced to high enough rpm for racing. Most shops can only balance up to about 3000 rpm some to only 1800rpm. There is a place in Michigan that can balance to over 8000 rpm.
If you are running a rear gear other than stock just get a new stock shaft and keep an eye on it. Maybe change it once a year. Or spend the money for a custom CF.
Even Dave Lemon(Mazdatrix) doesn't run an aluminum one in his EP car.
