Question race/test pipe questions

i am looking to get a race/test pipe whatever you wanna call it to replace my main cat with because i ordered a cat back exhaust system and then looked at mine only to find out the previous owner had welded the stock exhaust to the main cat. i found one on www.rx7.com for a reasonable price but it sais its for a turbo but i have a 86 gxl that is non turbo i was wondering if this one would still fit and if not if someone would be able to point me in the direction of one within the price range of a 100 bucks or cheaper. thanks in advance

Go to any exhaust shop and have them weld you up a pipe, I had one made for my old N/A for 20 bucks.

Main cats and anything made to fit in the same location will be interchangeable between NAs and turbos. Depending on your setup, you might be happier with a presilencer or resonator instead of just a straight pipe. Corksport sells one that fits in the main cat location for about $150.

+1 on having one made.
I made the mistake of buying a 'catless race pipe' (straight pipe with one crush bend and some kind of really small muffler) from the same place when I was a noob, $160 down the drain .

Of course, RotaryRocket88's suggestion of adding a presilencer is better.

That might be tough.
When I had my "test" pipe made I couldn't even bring my car to the shop, had to unbolt the precat/main cat and bring it in to get the measurements.
It's against federal regulations for a muffler shop to remove a cat without replacing it.
In other words, you can't drive in with cats and drive out with a test pipe installed.

OK.
Give me a couple of hours to dig out my stock cats from the attic and I'll see what I can do.

OK, now I'm cornfused.
Isn't your test pipe going to go from the exhaust manifold back to the y-pipe?

If all you need is the main cat length, hold on a sec....

...it's 17.5", flange to flange.

ha sry i am bad at explaining things and it often leads to confusion but thank you for the help and ya all i am doing is replacing the main cat with a straight pipe so ya i guess thats all i need although are there any suggestions on diameter? i am going into a 3 inch cat back i think cant remember the size right now. so should i make the pipe i am replacing the cat with 3 inches or should i make it smaller?
