Race Spec RX7

A little background before I get to the question:

I found out that my girlfriends friend has an rx7 he wanted to get rid, it is basically an unfinished project. It is a series 5 automatic FC witch he wanted to convert to manual. He has the manual transmission, the engine was taken out but he gave up on it and has sat for 2 years. I aquired it a week ago.

I also brought a fucked up S4 TII RX7 for $1200 a while back, totally stripped of its interior, fucked up paint job, looks like a piece of **** but has a fresh JDM swap.

I want to turn the above into a full out race car.

My plan is this, to take the TII drivetrain (Differential, driveshaft, front brakes) and swap it over to my new S5. Now the TII motor is a S4, and the car is a S5 so im not ******* around with that wiring. What I plan to do is take the TII motor and do a NA peripheral port on it (dont try and stop me : ), use the s5 NA high comp rotors. Will be run on a microtech ECU and 55mm ITB's.

I plan to strip the interior of everything, (heater, panels) and even the dash and replace it with a sheet metal dash. Since i am turning this into a race car and want to get rid of everything interior wise, what components would I need to keep the taillights, headlights, and windscreen wipers to work? I have seen this done on race cars and wonders what is the minimal stuff i need to keep those things working on my race spec RX7?

You would be better off to fix the S4 TII and drive it, then build the S5 NA as it is. The reason for this is because the S5 is already in need of a rebuild where as the S4 doesnt sound like it needs one. Why disassemble a working motor to **** it up?

This thread fails unless you specify which race class you plan on competing in.

to keep the lights and wipers working you will need to keep the wiper and light wiring, relays, and switches. or you could replace the existing switches with replacement ones instead of original switches. its all a matter of what you want to do.

I plan to use this car as a professional drift car.

I guess I will have to put more info from people asking me more question and stray away from the actual question.

The car will have a 6 point roll cage as required by D1 regulations. Also the tailights, headlights, shazards must be working.

read number 14 on regulations.

That sounds like a good road race setup, but don't most of the top drift RX-7's have a street-ported turbocharged engine?

Go through the wiring diagrams in the FSM and remove unnecessary wires from the harnesses as desired. Rather than being stupid like me and starting with the first diagrams in the manual, go directly to the harness diagrams at the back of the manual and start there. If you aren't sure about something, just leave it alone.

It would probably be a good idea to have the cage also made to SCCA specs, which are very similar.

You could always do what I did and completely re-loom the S4 to S5. Its not terribly hard but the looms are totally different and I had to do the entire car but then mine is a road car. Also the dash and instruments would have to be swopped as well as they also differ. With your idea to drift/race etc then most of the wireing you will not need,a good idea to spring clean it and get rid of any unwanted looms. Think if i was drifting, i personally would stick with a turbo. good luck whatever you decide.
