R12 Oil Amount?

How much oil should be added to an empty system? I’ve replaced the dryer and condenser in my 87 NA. I didn't add oil to either. After evacuating, how much oil should I put in the system (assuminig the standard charge of 28.2 ounces of R12)?

Am I correct that R12 used Mineral Oil?

Thanks.

Yes it uses mineral oil designed for r12 systems. If you haven't removed the expansion valve and flushed out the evaporator core, we can assume that there is around 2 ounces of oil in the evap core. I would put at least 4 ounces of oil in, preferably 6, the extra 2 ounces of oil doesn't hurt anything, and gives your compressor an extra margin of safety.

If I remember correctly, the FSM called for 4 ounces.
