Question Quietest Cat-Back Exhast System???

I'm getting ready to install the RB header and presilencer on my '88 Vert. I've heard a couple cars with "cheap" cat-back system and the RB header/presilencer, that will make you go screaming for your mama they are so LOUD. My stock exhaust system says Bosal Brospeed on the mufflers. I thought Bosal Brospeed was an aftermarket supplier. Anyway, wether it says Bosal or not, it's nice an quiet all the time. I don't mind some increase in noise, but I'm afraid a straight through performance muffler will be too loud.

Does anyone know of a decent aftermarket exhaust that is still "relatively" quiet.

The consensus is, the RB catback is the QUIETEST catback system available for our cars. However it gets to be so quiet by slightly hindering performance.

If the loudness level of your RX is important to you, just get the RB system.

Okay, thanks. A small sacrifice in performance is worth being able to drive the car without earplugs.

just stick a banana up the tail pipe, of course you will have to stop every minute to remove the banana and let the pressure in the exhaust drop.

Seriously, the RB system is very quiet and well built, too. If you are seriously concerned with the sound of your car, do not get a header. They will increase the sound of your car dramatically! A good presilencer and catback with the stock header will get you almost as much power as an aftermarket header, but without anywhere near as much noise.

My car has some weirdo aftermarket system on it... lets just say you can't even hear the engine until 4500... but I wouldn't exactly call it a performance system

I understand your point on loudness. My car has pacesetter headers, gutted cat, and aftermarket mufflers and its really loud. Straight through mufflers are really loud and if I could go back in time I would have gotten RB mufflers or cat-back system.

Does anybody know how much quieter RB header/presilencer are over pacesetter headers? I know that the RB has alot better build quality and alittle more performance but am curious on how much quieter if any it is.

I really like the sound of the RB header/pre-silencer,cat-back setup.Though I think it is slightly louder than the setup I have which sounds nice as well.I don't know why headers get a bad rap except for the noise increase. With the right mufflers they don't sound bad.

Well, I've already purchased the RB Header and presilencer. I'm going to try it with the "stock" exhaust setup, and hope it is tolerable. I know that it's going to be significantly louder. Trial and error I guess. If I don't like it, there will be a nice gently used RB header and presilencer in the classified section.

Before I got the HKS catback I had the header and pre-silencer wit a RB y-pipe and stock mufflers. It was tolerable to me.It actually wasn't that loud below 3500rpm after that it increased in volume and got higher in pitch.Sounded kind of like a RM80 dirt bike. But if you don't like sound don't sell it try to tolerate it until you can get a good cat-back 'cause with the right catback it should sound pretty good IMHO.The stock mufflers sound nothing like the Racing Beat or HKS catbacks

Are you sure that you have clearance on your vert for the header?

I looked into it for mine once, and I never got a straight answer, but some people seemed to believe that the extra crossmember under the car poses fitment problems for a header. Let us know what you find!

i've actually heard an RB header n presilencer w/ stock mufflers is louder than when u add an RB catback. muffler design is all...RB is quality stuff, great for a street car w/o attracting attention like my dual N1 can sometimes I like attention hehe, just gotta make sure I drive like a reasonably normal person, theres a time and a place to **** around

I got a friend who had one on the 'vert he used to have.I don't recall any clearance issues.Though I do remember we installed the full RB single pre-silencer system that Mazdatrix sells while his engine was out waiting on parts for the rebiuld and the brace may have been off at the time.I do know the brace was on after the engine install was complete and there weren't any problems then.

If you look on RB website, you'll see that they now offer Convertible specific "downpipes" and presilencers. Those are the ones that I have. I would guess that there must have been some fitment issues, or RB wouldn't have developed convertible specific pieces like this. Thanks for everybody's input, you have been more helpfull than you realize. I think some of my Tax Return will have to go to a RB Cat-Back system.
