quiet muffler
I have a 88 non turbo rx-7. the only modification i have is a K&N intake, but i plan on buying a high flow cat from RX-7.com and having a muffler shop in my town build the rest. any suggestions for a quiet reliable muffler. also does anyone know if those moroso spiral mufflers are any good.

im preety sure that if you want both quiet and reliable then cheap isnt really one of your options... i would take a look at rx7.com and mazdatrix.com and see if they have anything in your price range
im preety sure that you have to get a muffler designed to handle the heat of the rx7 exaust or its gonna die quick (i dunno from experience, just what i read)

Get a Sportsman XL spintech muffler, it is supposed to be there quitest muffler, and they are very good quality mufflers, and create very little if any back pressure. But 1 muffler ( that is all you should need ) is $120+shipping. But you would either have to make it a single or put the muffler in the middle of the car.

Here is your rundown:
Cheap= low quality
Cheap= low lifespan
Quality= cost
Quality= better sound
Quality= longer life
Even the mufflers that Cory pointed out are still expensive. I would get the RB cat-back and be done with it knowing that I won't need mufflers for atleast several years. Those cheap mufflers will die quick. Maybe a year or two. The RB mufflers have been quoted as high on the quiet scale if not the highest on that scale. I have them on my car and they are nice. Although they let people know you are there when you are on it.
You get what you pay for. So I recommend you don't get some 40 dollar mufflers.

Which one's, the Aeor Speed, or the Spintech's.
If you mean the AeroSpeed, those are mine, and I will sell the for $150+shipping (there are two)

i just lobbed off the cats today, so now all i have on the exhaust system is 2 stock mufflers.
NOT fun.
well its kinda fun
but the problem is the stock mufflers are really being torn apart FAST without the cats.. i knew it would happen, but this fast! im totally shocked!

a magnaflow would probably be your best bet. steel wool packing to resist temps and a straight through design. try hottexhaust.com
Steel wool packing along with glass packs will have the packing blown out of them after a while, or so every one says.
But I still think that the strongest muffler out there is the Spin Tech's. There are hand made out of 304 gauge steel, and mine have out lasted most peoples bets. Or at least the people that said they would blow up after 1 day. And the haeders have changed color (didn't take long) and there is still no problem.

My friend has some magnaflow mufflers that he got off of ebay and they have a huge tip robably like 4 or 5 inch I would guestimate. Don't get me wrong it is not a shitty sound but I like my Racing Beat mufflers a lot better than the magnaflows. Plus I beat him in a freeway run
