quick tranny fill question

I remember for some mazda trannies you got to fill up the shifter with fluid. I have a s4 t2 tranny, do I just drain and fill like any other tranny?

The shifter extension housing does not drain into the tranny.
To fill the tranny you use the fill plug on the side of the tranny case.
I fill it from on top using a funnel fitted with a long 3/8" hose to the fill hole.

Well- If the filler plug is FUBAR, you could jack the rear way up, pull the driveshaft & fill the tranny through the shaft hole.

When replacing the shift lever bushings, it's recommended you clean out & re-oil the extension housing. Other than that, you shouldn't have to mess with it.

The Turbo gearbox has two drain plugs and two fill plugs, and all four should be used as per the FSM instructions.

I found that using a Small size Gear oil bottle with a Piece of hose on it works Ok to fill the trans...you can Squeeze the bottle until almost empty and fill it again, until the tranny is topped off...alot of ways to do it,but you cannot Fill it from the Shifter "hole"(up top)..it will not Drain down to the Bottom of the transmission.

Actually, I was aware the shifter part doest drain down to the gearbox, but I was wondering if the shifter hole needs a certain amount of fluid in there.

Yes - about half way up.
