Quick question Windshield/Driveshaft

Hey guys. So I just purchased an 87 se (I haven't picked it up yet...) and there are some things that I know needs to be replaced. Specifically the windshield and the driveshaft. Car-part.com listed an 88 windshield with an antenna. I searched and I believe the 88 windshield will fit in my 87. Car-part.com also listed a front driveshaft and a rear driveshaft. Will the 88 rear driveshaft fit on my 87? And what exactly is the front driveshaft? Sorries, noob here.

hmm, the driveshaft thing is new to me... just make sure the driveshaft is from a non turbo, doesn't matter what year it is.

also, the windshield should fit.

i think with the driveshaft, they were talking about the u-joint and yoke?

Windsheild will fit. Make sure that the driveshaft matches your transmission (Automatic or Manual) You may be able to pick up what you need through the for sale section on this forum. And the front driveshaft section would be for such vehicals as 4x4's and AWD's definately doesnt apply to our cars. Good Luck on replacement

I've got a stick nonturbo driveshaft. Never drove on it, so i dunno if the u-joints are good or not.

With the drive shafts, you're gambling by using an old one.. If it's possible, I'd pony up the cash for a new one from mazdatrix.com with replaceable ujoints.. I know i tried to patch mine trhough (replaced the joints), and that did NOT go over well.... just buy a new one

My 88 driveshaft is one piece ($400 from Mazda 6 years ago.) . I don't know what they mean by front and rear.

The front driveshaft may refer to the propeller shaft which connects transmission to rear end, and the rear drive shaft may refer to the halfshafts which connect the rear end to the rear wheels. There are obviously two halfshafts, for the left and right sides, but they are identical parts.

Also, there are 3 different driveshafts (TII, N/A MT and N/A AT), and two different types of halfshafts (TII and N/A). I'd be suspicious of buying RX7 drivetrain parts from a place like carparts.com. Your best bet would be to go to either a Mazda (e.g., Mazdaformance.com) dealer or a Mazda speciality parts shop (e.g., Mazdatrix.com) to buy one of these items, should you need them.

One more comment...although carparts.com may have a windshield, you'll need to have it shipped. Shipping a windshild may be costly, them you'd have to ahve someone install it in your car. I would think that you'd be better off just calling a local windshied repalcement shop and asking them to replace it your windshield. Just make sure they have or can order the correct replacement windshield, i.e. with antenna and tinting.

I second the motion to obtain the windshield locally, shipping will be insane and installation is for pros.

Driveshaft - Heck I'm just worried why the car needs a new one. The u-joints are the wear parts...

JEC-31 - The U-joints are the wear points, but mazda, in all of it's infinite wisdom, made the ujoints non replaceable on a stock driveshaft... therefore: U-joints wear == replacement time for the whole driveshaft.

As far as the windshield. pay someone to do it. seriously.. get a local windshield company to do it.. I made the mistake of replacing the cracked windshield on my eclipse with one from a junkyard, removal AND installation is one of the biggest pains in der **** that I've ever done.. That, and the windshield spontaineously cracked on me about three weeks later.

Try Mazdatrix aftermarket driveshaft: http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm. U-joints are replacable and it is cheaper that the OEM.

Yeah I was thinking of getting an aftermarket driveshaft, but I didn't know how expensive shipping would be. I was actually looking at the one on mazdatrix.com with the replaceable u-joints. As for the windshield, I'm actually picking it up and hoping to install it myself. My friend's 2004 Civic needs to have his windshield replace so I should have had practice beforehand. haha I'm still debating on the windshield replacement though...We'll see.
