If you're talking where two pipes meet and there's a nut on the other side, it doesn't matter - just use a nut and bolt (with washers) that match.

If you're talking about a thread in a part you're bolting to, then specify which parts you're mating. Either that, or measure the bolt (if you can't take it with you to the hardware place). For pitch, measure 10 threads to make it easier...you'll either have 12.5mm or 15mm, easier to see.

im talking about the stud that connects the engine block to the exhaust. it came out along with the nut because the nut was seased. now i cant find it.

Alright then...double up two exhaust nuts on a stud that is still on the block. Remove stud and take it with you. It may have two threads, since one goes into the aluminum rotor housing (which would be coarse pitch), and the other has a steel nut (fine pitch).

Should still not pose a problem at a hardware place with good metric selection.

it can be difficult to locate that stud in the correct pitch. it is a finer pitch than most hardware stores have, and I think 1.25 might be it

Not the answer to your question, but Mazdatrix sells that junk. See jpg attached. Also I think there is a post in the Archieves or FAQ that deals with threads/bolts stuff like that.

I know I've got one or two of those I bought from Mazdatrix sometime ago.
