quick question concerning a/c removal

I was removing the a/c from my autocross car yesterday and I was wondering if I could remove the bracket that the compressor bolts up to? Just to be clear, there are 4 bolts that bolt the compressor to a big metal bracket that has one of the a/c pulleys on it. Can I remove that whole bracket or is it holding together something else?

My car doesn't have a/c but if I remember correctly the p/s is also bolted to that bracket which is itself bolted to the engine. It can easily be removed.

You should try to recover the coolant in the a/c system, you can usually take it to a shop and they will do it for free and some places pay you for the recovered coolant. Not to mention it isnt good for the environment to let all that stuff loose.

thanks for the replies! Nice to know I can shave a few more pounds off her.. that piece does look heavy. And I don't think I'll be pulling the stuff from the dash yet.

xfeastonarsex: good point but my system was bone dry, no coolant left at all.

Same here, that's part of the reason I pulled it in the first place.
