quick question on backpressure on my s4

88 rx-7 n/a quick question my exhuast was modified by the previous owner, it has what looks like a pipe from the exhaust manifold welded in to a cusco cat then welded to the y pipe and then welded to the 2 mufflers..... the car sounds like crap and all the welds are full of rust and so is the entire manifold... im thinking that if the cat got broken or something maybe is not opening my ports... i know all those discussions about wiring them open or shut them and blah blah blah but i just want to know that if the cat is messed up it will 100% mean its not getting enough backpressure to open them.

Yea if your cat is fucked up then your ports won't open...if thats what your question is. You should replace all that old rusted **** with new stuff. Like a nice bonez hi-flo cat and RB muffler.

Yeah, I'd second that too.

But even if that doesn't solve you particular problem at least your car won't sound like crap and look all rusted.

BTW, how'd you solve the spark problem?
