Question Quick Question About A Vibration

ok i have a good vibration going on in my 89 TII. it seems to start at about 30to40mph and is really bad at like 100. now it seems to be worse when you let off the gas or holding speed rather than just cruising. would a diff mount cause this. or u joints?? any help is greatly appreciated..

may as well climb under there and check your u-joints and diff and tranny mounts, you are on the right track for things to check. could be an out of balance tire but tires usually do not change much in intensity between cruise, accel and decel.

i was spin testing for the vibrations with the car up on jack stands and when you put it in 5th gear and let out the clutch the diff moved quite a bit. it this normal? i think the front mount on the diff is bad.. but if it was bad would it cause a vibration too?

All the mounts will cause a vibration, motor, tranny and diff. How many miles on the car. I changed all mine at 120K. Make sure there is no slop in the u-joints and go from there. If all the mounts are good and the ujoints are good check the third member.

welln the chasis has 135k but the motor only has like 10k in the car.. the rear end oil is good i drained it and it didnt look abnormal (no metal flakes or anything just a little dirty.) the rear end seems pretty tight no slop in the ring and pinion. it looks like the front. it just got worse as the night went on.. i was slamming the gears pretty hard too.. i also hear like a tinking when i take off... oh and a clunk

A clunk between gears is normally the u-joints. Jack the car up, with jack stands, and grab the drive shaft, in gear, and try to move it back and forth and up and down. There should be little to no play. If there is then thats the problem.

i already tried that and didnt feel any slop at all in the joints....its more of a thud than a clunk thats why i was suspecting the diff mount..

well... it seems more speed dependant than rpm dependant - so i'd guess somewhere along the driveline and not the engine or engine mounts. tranny mounts or u-joint - probably. maybe the.... uh.. what was it called (someone can help me out here) in the clutch assembly wasnt aligned right - that would screw things up.
