A quick question about modding the car...

I'm thinking of putting a straight pipe in her. My question is, is it best to buy the straight pipe from racing beat, or just get a muffler shop to do it for me?

I'm wanting to do a header, straight pipe, 2.5" piping and a presilencer. If it doesn't matter, I was going to get a shop to do the straight pipe and my 2.5" piping.. and just buy the header and presilencer (unless I can get it cheaper elsewhere) from racing beat.

What are the pro's and con's of doing this?

Less backpressure, real loud, and flames! Lots of flames! Do the exhaust work yourself. Save money. It's just a few bolts.

And it depends on the quality of the piping that the shop is using.

I don't mind the loudness, as it won't be "rice" loudness. Is less backpressure good or bad?

Well... I was gonna get a muffler shop to make me the straight pipe, 2.5" piping - (and I've got a pretty good deal on my mufflers from a guy....) and then have myself install it... or would that be possible?

What quality of piping would you all perfer if I ended up going to a shop to make it for me?

Stainless steel is probably the best bet.

Im not 100% sure on how it works with NA Rotarys but on NA Piston engines, you want some amount of backpressure.

On turbo cars though, the less backpressure, the better.

Well since you have an S4 you want some backpressure otherwise your six ports wont work correctly.

My 6 ports are barely opening/not functioning correctly as it is right now. So, I'll be wiring them open anyway.

But... which would be better? I've had some people around here just get the straight pipe done by the muffler shop, and nothing had problem.. but just wanted to know if it is a bad idea or not.

Like... I dunno. I guess I'm confused on how the back pressure works when you do a straight pipe...

edit: car_13 - to open your 6ports if they're not opening... you'd have to wire them open. I plan on doing that.. when I get rid of my cats, I'm just not sure the way I'm wanting to around it is the *best* idea or not.

midpipe is the cheapest one I've seen. ($30) Kinda thin though. The Bonez one is $60.

Racingbeat's requires that you buy the a whole assembly including the downpipe.

I'd lean towards having someone local construct something for you. (as long as they will stand behind it)
