Quick Q on Thermo Pellet

What is the cosmetic differences between the pellet and the thermostat. I am taking my rebuild apart and I need to figure out if there was a pellet in the engine, or if I need to add one to my order. I doubt it that there was one installed, but the piece I took out looks like nothing more than a solid piece of metal.

Thanks

The bypass pellet is a totally solid object, no holes or 'valves' or anything. The one that is factory installed is not.

Look closely at this picture. Part #11 is the thermostat. When oil heats it up the plunger pushes in and oil goes into the rotors.

Now this is the replacement. Its the size that the stock thermostat is with the plunger retracted. In other words, its size allows oil to go to the rotors all the time.

Thats that biggest picture of the two parts that i could find. Hope it gives you an idea of which one is which.

If I remember corerectly, the factory one is brass and has a spring in it.

If it looks solid, then it's probably not factory.
