Quick P/S question

I removed the power steering from my 86 gxl. I disconnected all the hoses and jacked up the front of the car until the wheels had just left the ground, and turned my steering wheel from 9 to 3 a couple times to bleed out the fluid. But now it makes a slight pop/creak everytime i turn it to eaither side. A kind of metal on metal sound. The sound is very brief but audible none the less. Do i need to add a little fluid?
Also, could someone maybe post a pic of a 2nd gen with the holes i need to block off marked? Some people said theres 3 i need to block some say 4... which is it?

I was under the impression that PS uses something like 3% of engine power, and weighs approx 40lbs? So that would be a reason to take it off

Sorry I can't help with the issue, best of luck

um, it has nothing to do with engine power... it has to do with road feel, power steering numbs it... i could care less about weight or loss of engine power. I drove a 2nd gen with out it and the amount of feedback i was losing was incredible!

you only need to put solid bolts into the 3 bolt holes where the 3 lines came out of on the steering rack. i forget the sizes of the bolts but a search should turn up the correct size bolts, 2 of them are the same and 1 is bigger than the other 2. as for the noise i have no idea, just put the bolts in and take it for a drive.

You unplug the PS CPU and the beeps go away. YOur pop may be due to a bad ball joint or lack of grease in it. Check those.

hmmm... i just checked the FC FAQ, and it says three beeps have to do with broken wires or something like that, not power steering like i thought. I tapped into my switched 12v (red + black) on my ignition harness... would that do it? Also, is there anyway to just disable that beepy box?

silver-colored thin "box", about 4 X 4 in., pretty much directly under the steering wheel shaft under the dash...took me about 15 min to figure out how to quell the beeps, too!...LOVE the steering feel now, too...I don't know about plugging the holes with bolts, though- whether it's air or oil, you're still going to need to relieve the pressures built up when the rack moves...I just left the lines open & make sure not much water gets in there...leave as much fluid as you can in there, to prevent corrosion & help with lubrication...my .02

i have a 86 n/a i just removed the pump and i get the same stupid click ... the most noticable point it when u turn all the way to the left, i might b completely wrong but it seems to come from the ps lines ?? i have yet to remove the ps lines... i was to lazy to track them down to their place. oh yea ... not to seem like im jackin the thread but, is there any way to reduce the size of the mounting bracket without removing anything else. if anyone has picks of their engine bay that would b great ^^ thx

Danny
